It’s that time of year again. When freshmen run around and try to spend the last of their meal points. When people innocently studying in Main Stacks are assaulted by the infamous patrons of the biannual Naked Run. When I kick my procrastination meter up another notch.
It’s Friday of Dead Week, and I have yet to set food inside any of the 20-something libraries on campus. There’s this sense of urgency, that I need to pull it together before it’s too late. And yet a part of me doesn’t want to care anymore.
And yet I’m sick.
It’s okay. Once summer starts, everything’s going to be alright. Right?
D:
I have a ton of stuff to do! First of all, I have a quiz tomorrow at 2 for my developmental biology class. Then I need to do my prelab for genetics before lab on Thursday. Then I need to finish up my Korean mini skit script and memorize by Friday. That wouldn’t be so bad if I also didn’t have to prepare for Calapalooza. I’ll be working on posters tomorrow so that we’re all good to go for Thursday afternoon.
Surprisingly, I’m not actually tired. 하지만 자는 것이 필요해! 어머. 어제 먹지 않았어.. 왜? 시간이 없어서 못먹어.. :( 난 많이 먹지 않기 때문에 안 건강해!! 먹으려고 할겠. (That last sentence was probably wrong..)
OKAY I should probably sleep now. ><
I recently discovered reddit.. and I wish I never had. I wasted so much time just randomly browsing. And now I have so much pointless knowledge stuffed in my brain!!
People always procrastinate the most when the most work needs to be done. So true. I’ve been “packing” for the past 3 hours with no end in sight. Let’s see if I can be mostly done in the next 30 minutes. o__o
When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous “yes.”
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
“Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else—the small stuff. “If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked.
It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”
While browsing random websites, I came across a couple of interesting things:
Reading about #2 made me decide to watch Changeling sometime in the future. Despite how much I dislike the hype behind Angelina Jolie, I still think it would be a worthwhile movie just based on the amount of awards it has received.
The past year was absolutely the wildest that I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had some of the best and some of the worst experiences of my life this past year; and I’ve learned a lot from them. I used to regret a lot of the bad stuff that’s happened, but I wouldn’t be who I am today without it all. :)
On a side note, I never really worked hard for the things that I so easily take for granted. I still procrastinate a lot, as well as keep people waiting. I think last year I made a new years resolution to always be on time.. which obviously didn’t work out well. But I’m less late than I used to be. I’m definitely going to try being more responsible and productive this year. AND I’m going to try working harder as well. Oh boy, this is going to be fun.

“How to Love” cover by Radio Reset
I think the vocals sound the best in the beginning before it becomes an auto-tuned mess..
